When I was a teenager, I met a girl at an assembly and we became fast friends. She lived in Cape Breton, like six hours away from me in Nova Scotia. I went to visit her once and she confided in me that her JW uncle committed suicide but it was covered up and she wasn't allowed to talk about it. I remember us whispering in her bedroom, she was so eager to share her pain with me. Apparently her uncle was gay so he was disfellowshipped. He had such guilt that he went back, got reinstated and tried his best to suppress his true feelings. He couldn't deal with it and killed himself. I remember listening to my friend talk about her uncle with such love, not understanding why the JW's couldn't love him for who he was.

I think about her from time to time and wonder if she left the Organization. I wouldn't be surprised.
