How many crazy people... I mean really crazy.... did your congregation have?
One brother spoke with a British accent and he had never been out of the San Francisco, not even on vacation....

Re: The Crazy
Thu, September 13, 2007 - 12:32 PMLOL!!!
When I lived in Wyoming there was a guy who was REALLY crazy. REALLY, especially when he's quit taking his meds. And let me tell ya, in a small town (pop 2600) people thought it meant we were ALL nuts. Some of his more memorable moments...
He lived in a cave (true!)
Would ride around town on his bicycle with nothing on but a smile
Hitchhiked all the way to New York to let the governing body know he was Jesus and had a special message for them
Came to meeting and jumped up in the middle of it to point at a bag full of used clothing one of the sisters had brought for another sister and scream "Everybody move to this side of the building - there's a bomb in that bag!!!"
Just to name a few.
His mother was slightly more functional and had been a pioneer but when he was a kid she'd leash him to a clothesline pole in her back yard so he couldn't wander off. That whole family was nuts except for her daughter who moved faaar away as soon as she was old enough to be on her own.

Re: The Crazy
Thu, September 13, 2007 - 5:04 PMHah! we had a lady that spoke with a british accent too, and she was born and raised here in Oregon.
And we had lots of Senile old people too of course, one brother would raise his hand and comment and just make a statement about himself, like one time he said "I help the orphaned children and the widows." - that's it. The brother conducting was like "Oookay".
I'm sure I'll think of more.

Psychotic Breaks
Tue, October 9, 2007 - 10:13 PMThis thread and the posts about demons reminded me of something that happened when i was about 10 or 12. There was this one family that moved to our Hall, They were always a little out of place. The young boy was a friend of mine while they were there (which wasnt long). The mother and daughter were both seriously overdone as far as witnesses go, heavy makeup and and very ornate hair. The dad looked kinda jim jones-like, huge square glasses, tall, square faced.
anyway, one night the service meeting was interrupted by shrieks from the back of the hall; the dad was attending the door, and the mother and daughter were screaming about him being in league with demons. eventually the mother got pulled outside by the daughter and we went back to whatever scripture was being examined for the 100th time.
anybody else got stories of people just freaking out in the muted emotional environment of the hall? -

Re: Psychotic Breaks
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 12:11 AMHmmm...I do remember one meeting when a brother who had "missed the meeting" came in during the middle of it to drag one of the sisters into the back room to tell her he's just caught her husband with his wife. You could hear the WHOLE thing complete with expletives coming from the back room. THAT was an interesting meeting. -

Re: Psychotic Breaks
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 6:58 AMdude I totally remember that
fear was such a big part of the religion--everybody was on edge...freaked out about demons and the end of the world all the time. I was scared shitless pretty much 24/7. It's taken a long time to my fear of the world.

Re: The Crazy
Wed, November 28, 2007 - 2:53 PMThere were actually quite alot of people in my hall that did the british accent thing.... it was a phase I think. lol It wasn't a constant thing..... just every now and then, in private conversations, some of the people in my hall, would talk with their exagerated british accents. lmao
I think all religions are cest pools for the mentally ill.
The sister, that studied with me and my sister..... well, she finally went off the deep end...... she started thinking she was a prophet, locked herself in her house, wrote a book of "prophecys" and wrapped it in tin foil. (don't ask me why I have no freaking clue.) And she wouldn't talk to anyone.... rufused to talk to anyone except me for some reason. I moved, and thought that was the end of that..... until she wrote me this really out there letter about how I was going to be a video game programmer(I hate video games btw) and she'd see me under a pavilion in paradise....... all kinds of far out there stuff.
I was shaken by the several page letter, as to me it clearly had the markings of someone who is schizo....... I gave it to an Elder, hoping he could get her into a mental hospital, but I think he just thought she was apostate. :( She needed and probably still needs treated for schizo, or whatever it is that she definately is suffering from.
Most everyone I've ever met at any KH, is definately a little out there. lol -

Re: The Crazy
Thu, November 29, 2007 - 8:47 AMIt's sad that there are many who have mental illnesses in the organization that end up being treated like they're "demonized" because of it. If they hear voices, believe themselves to be Jesus, etc... I've known more than one case of someone with a serious mental illness being disfellowshipped for apostasy! Come on - it's an illness! Get the poor folks some help instead of cutting them off from everyone in their life. Like that's really gonna help them keep their sanity. -

Re: The Crazy
Sat, December 1, 2007 - 8:08 AMTrue, *B* very true. What about the crazy, mentally ill folks that are accepted among the congregation, and treated special because they are so spiritual, or because they believe themselves to be anointed. When they are obviously off their rocker.

Sat, December 1, 2007 - 2:08 PMWhat about the singer Prince? I heard he turned into a JW.. he is pretty out there. Or that Micheal Jackson was raised and baptized as a JW. Sorry if you like his music but I personally think he is a freak. -
